

Paul graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville, Florida and served in the United States Navy. After serving in the Navy, he worked in the automotive industry and was employed by companies such as Jim Martin Tire Company and Ernie Palmer Toyota. He also worked in wholesale sales, managing distribution routes for restaurant, seafood, and floral businesses. After retiring in 2000, he moved to Eustis, Florida until returning to Jacksonville in 2024 to be closer to his children.
Paul is survived by his two children, Catherine Steckner (husband, David) and Ray Phillips (wife, Mary). He has two grandchildren, Donnie Phillips (wife, Bond), Lauren Jarman (husband, Eugene). He also has three great grandchildren, Dixie’Ana, Axl, and Harrison. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Albert and Susan Phillips, sister Shirley Spayd, and his granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth.
Paul loved to travel and enjoyed his freedom on the road. His love of the mountains and backroads led him down scenic highways all over the Eastern U.S. where he explored new places, met new people, and experienced local foods. He enjoyed listening to music, especially the Big Band era, classic country, and songs from the 1950s and 1960s.
Paul’s life will be honored with a graveside military funeral service on Friday, August 21st at 10:00 am at Jacksonville Memory Gardens in Orange Park, Florida.
