Prentiss Edward Parker Jr.

Dr. Parker was born January 7, 1924, in Houma, La., and moved as a child to Tennessee. He received his bachelor’s degree from East Tennessee State University, his master’s degree from the University of Tennessee and his medical degree from Tulane University. He practiced obstetrics and gynecology for many years in Cobb County, Georgia. He later focused on gynecology in the student health service of Louisiana State University and, after retiring from LSU, back in Georgia at Kaiser Permanente. After retiring from Kaiser Permanente, he moved to Orange Park, FL.

He met Eula Fudge while he was a student at East Tennessee and they were married on her parents’ anniversary almost immediately following graduation. They were married for 65 years, during which they raised two children and traveled throughout the world.

He joined the army during World War II and reenlisted during the Korean Conflict. During his service as a medical officer in Korea, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal.

While in Baton Rouge, Dr. Parker served as a deacon of the First Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Riverside Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville, FL., at the time of his death.

Survivors include his wife Eula Parker, son Edward Charles Parker and his wife Hannah of Plano, Texas, daughter Susan Parker Humes and her husband John of Jacksonville, FL., and granddaughters Tatiana Parker of Plano and Frances Humes of Jacksonville.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 29 at Riverside Presbyterian Church, 849 Park St., Jacksonville, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or your favorite charity.
