Ralph Ray Story passed unexpectedly from this life into the welcoming arms of our Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 12, 2020. Born in Lexington, Kentucky, he was stationed in Jacksonville during his US Navy enlistment in the 1950s and there met the love of his life and wife of 65+ years, Miriam.
Following 12 years of active and reserve duty with the Navy, Ralph served for 37 years with the Civilian Personnel Office at NADEP (NAS Jax). In addition to his professional accomplishments, he committed his time and talent for over 56 years as a member of the Board of Directors of VyStar Credit Union (originally Jax Navy Federal Credit Union) from which he retired on May 31, 2019. During this time, he consistently guided the credit union in the best interest of its members. In 2015, Ralph was honored for his service by the renaming of the VyStar Service Center in Fleming Island to the Story Center. His commitment to the credit union movement also earned him recognition from the Florida Credit Union League (23 years of service), Credit Union National Association (15 years), the Defense Credit Union Council (13 years), National Credit Union Foundation (3 years), and the Armed Forces Financial Network (AFFN) for his service on their boards.
In addition to his wife, Miriam, he is survived by their daughter Linda Story Tyus (Larry); 2 granddaughters, Lindsey Tyus Tackett and Lauren Tyus Carroll (Bryan); three great grandchildren; sister-in-law Elaine Johnson (DeWayne Truitt); and nephews Michael Olberding, Steven Truitt, and Eric Truitt.
Due to the current restrictions of Covid-19, Assistant Pastor David Sheffield of Redeemer Church will officiate a short, private chapel and graveside service. A celebration of his life will be scheduled in the near future when these restrictions have been lifted. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Ralph’s memory to Midway Covenant Christian School - Building Fund, 4635 Dallas Highway, Powder Springs, GA 30127.
