Richard Paul Vandermiller Sr., 86, of Orange Park, Florida, passed away on October 18, 2026. Born June 1, 1940, Richard lived a life marked by steady devotion, quiet courage, and a deep regard for the people he loved. His presence carried both strength and warmth—thoughtful in spirit, kind at heart, and, when the moment called for it, touched with a welcome sense of humor.
Richard proudly served in the United States Navy as a Guided Missile Technician, a chapter of his life that reflected both bravery and dedication. He later worked for RCA and retired from Unisys, known throughout his years of work as someone dependable and hard-working—someone who showed up, followed through, and did what needed to be done.
Outside of work, Richard found joy in the outdoors through hunting and fishing, pursuits that suited his adventurous nature and appreciation for simple, honest time spent in the world around him. After retiring he loved to travel with his wife. He was also an avid FSU fan, bringing enthusiasm and good-natured spirit.
Richard was born to the late Catherine (Bahnemann) and Charles Vandermiller. He was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Sandra Vandermiller; his brother, Charles Vandermiller; and Charles’s wife, Tina.
He is survived by his children, Richard Vandermiller, Jr. (Casey) and Cheryl Robinson, Paul Benson (Melinda) and Patrick Benson; his grandchildren, Catherine Ohrt (Arlen), Audrey Robinson, Kelsey Vandermiller, and Ryan Vandermiller; his great-grandchild, Hayden Alan Ohrt; his sister, Patricia Roberts; and his niece, Jennifer Roberts.
A Graveside Service with military honors will be October 27, 2026 at 10:30 am at the Jacksonville National Cemetery located at 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32218.
