Sonja F. Randolph Castaneda, age 72, of Orange Park, Florida, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 18, 2019 at her residence. She was born March 4, 1947 in Landau, West Germany. She was raised in Billighein, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany by her loving grandmother, Oma.
In the early 1970’s, Sonja was well known in the Bellair Meadowbrook Area of Orange Park as the door to door Avon lady. She had an infectious smile and a gift for gab. She never met a stranger and was passionate about animals, gardening and cooking. Sonja’s yearly holiday meals were a sight to behold. To her, food was Love, and there was always plenty to go around. She was a Pixie leader, a Brownie troop leader, and a Cub Scout Den Mother. She was always involved in her children’s extracurricular activities. A former military spouse, Sonja loved to travel. She spent time in Rota, Spain and Atsugi, Japan.
Sonja is survived by her 4 children, Roger (Svetlana) Randolph, Kathy (Jeffrey) Halleran, Jennifer (Ed) Kaczkowski and Patrick (Kaori) Randolph. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Brittany, Francesca, Tyler, Mia and Edmund, and 3 great-grandchildren, Noah, Brooklyn and Wyatt. The family of Sonja would like to send a heartfelt Thank you to everyone at Heartland Hospice for taking such amazing care of their Mama.
A Visitation will be held from 12:30pm-2:30pm Friday, August 23, 2019 at Rivermead Funeral Home, 127 Blanding Boulevard, Orange Park, FL 32073. Graveside services will follow at 2:30pm and will be held at Jacksonville Memory Gardens, 111 Blanding Blvd, Orange Park, FL 32073.
