Terry Ray Robertson, age 83, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2024. Born in Lynchburg, VA, to the late Jimmie and Ruth Hudson Robertson (Brassard), he was also preceded in death by his brother, John R. Robertson.
Terry received a teaching scholarship to attend Florida State University, where he majored in art history. Initially required to only teach for four years, Terry found his calling and made education his lifelong career, retiring after 40 dedicated years.
A multi-disciplined artist, Terry often exhibited his photography, ceramics, and textile art. Despite his artistic achievements, his true talent was inspiring creativity and confidence in his students, enriching their lives beyond the classroom.
A lifelong learner, Terry immersed himself in various interests with enthusiasm and dedication. When he developed a passion for autocross and racing, he taught himself performance driving and meticulously fine-tuned his MGB. His skills often led him to achieve the fastest times often outperforming more advanced cars.
In the 1970s, during America’s bicentennial, Terry combined his love for history and the arts by participating in historical reenactments. He volunteered in historical St. Augustine, portraying an English soldier. Visitors to the Castillo de San Marcos may recall seeing Terry as part of the cannon crew, one of the highlights of the tour.
In recent years, Terry’s passion for deerhounds stood out. His involvement with the deerhound community brought him immense joy and lifelong friendships across the globe.
Terry is survived by his eldest sons, Sean E. (Shok) Robertson and James P. Robertson, along with their mother, Mic Robertson; his youngest son, Grant A. Robertson, and his mother, Raelene Robertson; his grandchild, Azhy N. Robertson (Sean & Shok); his deerhounds Lurigh and Lurage, and a host of extended family and friends.
Terry’s spirit of adventure and passion for teaching will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched.
Memorial services will be held at St. Giles Presbyterian Church, 116 Foxridge Road, Orange Park FL. 32065 on Saturday August 31, 2024 at 10:00 am.
