

Thomas (Tom) Trott passed away at home on October 29, 2010 following a long battle with end-stage COPD. He was under the care of Community Hospice of Northeast Florida. Tom was born in January 2, 1929 in Yonkers, N.Y. to Thomas and Frieda (Sauer) Trott. He graduated from Saunders Trade and Technical High School in Yonkers, and was a proud member of the 1952 class of the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N.Y. He served in the Merchant Marine service for several years sailing to the Far East on the Washington Mail Line as a cadet, as well as to Northern Europe. He was aboard the first troop-carrying ship to dock in a U.S. port following cessation of hostilities in the Korean conflict. Tom was an avid sailor and spent many happy hours on Long Island’s Great South Bay in his 19 foot O’Day Mariner. Following a distinguished 26-year career with New York Telephone Company (Verizon), Tom retired and moved to Jacksonville in 1984. His second career was in the Safety and Security Department of St. Vincent’s Medical Center from which he retired in 1994. In retirement, Tom became an accomplished chef, and managed the home for his wife and family. Tom was predeceased by his parents, and by his brother, Eddie and sister, Olive Derivan. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Adrienne Davis Trott, and their son Christopher Trott of Washington, D.C. Tom is mourned by his devoted caregiver and friend Pauline Jhagroo and her husband, Rudy Francis; and by his sister-in-law Sheri Brown and brothers-in-law Wallace Brown and Robert Davis. He is also remembered by his sons Daniel and Douglas Trott and daughters Carolyn Trott Hamlett and Janet Trott Leath and their spouses and children. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Hardgage-Giddens Rivermead Funeral Home, 127 Blanding Blvd. Orange Park, Fl. 32073, 904-272-6316.
