The world is nto better without Mr Smilie in it.  My kids all called him that and loved him for his gentle humor and kind heart.  Judy, I wish you well and hope your memories sustain you.  I can't help but smile just writing this about him.  The ability to make people smile was his best gift.  Thanks, Mike, you touched our hearts.

we are so sorry to hear about Mike, we will miss his phone calls for Jesse. Mike was a great neighbor, and always loved to talk to Jesse and was kind to let Jes cut through to go fishing on the lake. Our Prayers are with you.

I was sadden to here of Mikes passing.  I will always remember coming in the house and hearing his "Amanda!!". Will be thinking of you!  Miss you all!  Amanda (doggie styles grooming)

My mother, Lillian Hoeflinger Mattimoe (father Edward J. Hoeflinger) and Mike were first cousins.  My grandfather died in 1907, but connections were always strong with many visits to Platt St. until Grandma Hoeflinger died in 1947.  With Agnes & Paul Mermer, Aunt Gertie, Ted & Gertrude and their families these visits I remember as truly jolly events, belying the ground floor business.  While over the years encounters have been few, I was lucky to find Mike in a Reading for Literacy training class three years ago.  It was a great pleasure to enjoy his company for the weeks of our class.  I will miss Mike, whose death brings a lost family connection to East Toledo.

I am so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. I was unable to make it out there for services. I am truly honored to have met him and work with him the few times I did. He was an amazing man, and it was wonderful to know him. Take Care,

Dear Lynn and Family, I was saddened to hear that your dad had died.  As many people before me said, he was such a great guy, very kind to those of us who have lost someone.   He will be sadly missed by not only his family but by those of us who thought so much of him.  I enjoyed working for him and getting to know the kind and considerate gentleman he was.   We shall all definitely miss him.  My sympathies to you and your family.

Michael served our family for many decades, including burial of all my grandparents and many of my uncles, aunts, and other relatives and friends.  His professionalism was unquestioned but just as important was his kindness and compassion.  Thank you Michael for all you did for the Testa and Meyer families.

Our deepest sympathy to the Hoeflinger family. Mike was there many times for our families. His thoughfulness will always be remembered especially his friendship with my dad in his later years.

Although I can't be with you while you remember your loved one, you're in my thoughts from afar.

May God bless Mr. Hoeflinger in his journey to eternal peace.  I feel fortunate to having known Mr. H. growing up in the neighborhood.
