Donna L. McCarthy

After a long battle with Alzheimer’s, Donna Louise McCarthy (nee Luczak) age 79 of Homer Glen, IL passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, January 13, 2023. Beloved wife of the late James W. McCarthy. Her loving companion, Les Banach, survives her. A loving mother of Janet (George) Fabis and Karyn (Carl) Charvat; cherished grandmother of Zachary, Joshua and Jillian; dear sister of Charles Luczak; and caring stepmother of James(Matilde) McCarthy, Kevin (Kathryn) McCarthy, and Colleen (Eric) McCann.

An outdoor enthusiast, Donna loved hiking, water and snow skiing, biking, tennis and was happiest being active. After a long career of working in real estate as a managing broker, Donna received her bachelor’s degree with highest honors from Lewis University and went on to get her master’s degree in social work, graduating with highest honors from the Jane Addams College of Social Work at University of Illinois at Chicago.

She then enjoyed a second career as a licensed clinical social worker with Linden Oaks Behavioral Health and at VITAS Healthcare as a hospice worker. She loved taking long walks on Siesta Key Beach in Sarasota and spending time with family and friends at her lake home in Michigan. Donna was an engaging, funny and beautiful woman who loved life and made strangers feel like family. She was very loved and will be deeply missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on January 20th from 3-7pm, with memorial service to begin at 6pm, at Orland Funeral Home, 9900 W. 143rd St., Orland Park, IL. Interment Private.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer’s Association Illinois Chapter at www.alz.org/illinois would be appreciated. Their supportive services have been immensely appreciated. Donna’s family also wishes to thank her exceptional team of caregivers for their loving, compassionate care over the past 7 years. Through their service, Donna was able to reside in her home per her wishes.
