Dorothy M. Chanda

October 17, 1936January 9, 2020

Dorothy M. Chanda (nee Dapkus): Simply the Best wife, mother, sister and aunt and friend passed away peacefully on January 9, 2020. She was preceded in death by her lifelong pal of 59 years, Edward. She was a successful business woman having started two of her own businesses. In her younger years she and her mother ran a successful catering business in the Roseland neighborhood where she grew up. She was a top-seller for several years of the Gay Felton Company. Later in life, she started her own business named Simply the Best flavored oils. She loved her customers and enjoyed talking and meeting them at various Farmer Markets, craft shows, and downtown markets, but it was her customers who loved her and visited the markets just to talk to Dorothy.

She loved her husband and children beyond measure, but it was her “boys” that made her life complete. Her life was blessed further with the addition of her first great grandchild, Hailey Grace.

Her family includes her daughter Lorrie (Bill) DeFore, Carol (Walter) Andersen, and Andrew (Robin) Chanda. Her boys included grandsons Dan DeFore, Jeff (Becca) Andersen, Brandon (Ali) Chanda and Carl Chanda. She leaves behind her baby sister, Mary Jo Bardan. She was preceded in death by her sister Fran Granatelli and her brother Ronnie Dapkus. She was the awesome aunt to many who loved her dearly, including Carmine, Len, David, Paul, and Ann Marie. We would be remiss not to mention her buddy Patti Matlage, a constant source of friendship and treats.

Dorothy will be remembered by her family and friends first with a visitation on Sunday, 1/12, from 3-8 PM at Orland Funeral Home, 9900 W 143rd St, Orland Park, IL 60462. On Monday, 1/13, the Funeral will begin at Orland Funeral Home at 9 AM, proceeding to St. Michael Church, 14327 Highland Ave, Orland Park, IL 60462, for a 9:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment to follow at Good Shepherd Cemetery.

To the Chanda Family,
I’m so sorry for your loss. I loved your Mom.
She was the hardest working person I ever met. We became close when I served for her catering business with Aunt Sis.

I’m sorry I’ll miss the services, but Aunt Dorothy and her family is in my prayers. She’s at rest now.

We deepest respect and love, Sandi

I’m truely sorry for the loss of your Mom. She will always be forever young to me from my memory of her living across the street from us in Roseland. She was very kind and sweet. My thoughts and prayers.

Dorothy was one of the sweetest, most caring, considerate, and thoughtful individuals I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. She treated my family as her own and we love her just the same.
