Our beloved Abraham Machado-Fernández was born in the town of Cidra, Puerto Rico, the fourth son of Ramón Machado-Báez and Faustina Fernández-Alicea. Abraham had a life in the countryside of Cidra, Puerto Rico before moving to the city of San Juan with his family. He talked a lot about his childhood and his daily tasks around his family. He was a storyteller and always compared the country lifestyle to the city lifestyle. He was able to go to school, even with the limited resources in his country.
In his eagerness to excel, he enlisted in the military service on October 2, 1951 and Honorable Discharged in June 29, 1953. On his return to Puerto Rico, he began his work as a barber in Villa Palmeras, Santurce; a town in San Juan. Then, he began working as a public bus driver. He was certified as an electrician, plumber, and service technician in HVAC & appliances, at the same time he worked as a driver with the support of his wife Noelia.
He always was working and doing things as his own time and pace. His favorite hobby was being in his workshop, talking to his neighbors, who called him the "Mayor of Bayamón or the Captain" and occasionally taking the "Palmolive" known to him as the Heineken. Still at the age of 89, he remembered his beer. He was truly kind and helpful to his family, friends, and neighbors. Always present to help with his knowledge to others. Today and forever, we will remember him happy, remembering his anecdotes and always making jokes!!!
