Bruce Dwight Baldwin, a beloved father, Pop-pop, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, in Orlando, Florida. He was 81 years old. Bruce was born on April 2, 1945, to William Darwin Baldwin Jr. and Cornelia May Baldwin (née King) and raised in Burton, MI with his 8 younger brothers and sisters.
He graduated from Bendle High School in 1963. While growing up he developed a love for cars, watersports, carpentry, and being an outdoorsman. After graduating he started working for General Motors (Buick) as a Tin Smith. Bruce welcomed his first child, Debra (Debbie) in 1965.
In 1969, Bruce married the love of his life, Christine, and they shared many happy years together. Soon afterwards the couple moved to Metamora, MI where he designed and built their house on Lake Lapeer and welcomed their first child, Adam, in 1973. They welcomed their second child, Angela (Angie) in 1974, and their third, Jeremy, in 1985.
Bruce had an appreciation for the importance of making memories. He was intentional about taking pictures and creating experiences with his children and grandchildren so they would have memories to carry with them. Bruce adored his grandchildren, and being their Pop-pop was one of the great joys of his life. Whether the occasion was big or small, Pop-pop showed up, oftentimes with a Hostess cupcake. Again and again, he showed them that one of the greatest ways to say “I love you” is simply to be there.
And, Bruce loved to have fun. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved telling a good joke, even if you had heard it several times previously. He was social, warm, and genuinely enjoyed being around people. He could strike up a conversation with just about anyone, and his stories, laughter, and jokes were often as much a part of his presence as his generosity and kindness. He always had a pen in his shirt pocket and a joke at the ready.
Bruce was an avid outdoorsman, spending many hours camping, hunting, and fishing throughout his life. He took many trips hunting and guided trips to Montana, Alaska, Yukon Territory, and so many more destinations. He had a great appreciation for the mountain men, native cultures, and grit it took to live and thrive in the wild. It was a rare sight to see him without his cowboy hat and boots.
Bruce developed a love for animals later in life. Having spent much of his earlier years as an avid hunter and fisherman, this came as a shock to some; but those who knew his warm heart weren’t shocked at all. He loved his dogs, Max and Bandit, and the three cats he cared for, Mr. Snuggles, Flo, and Missy very much.
He is survived by his children, Angela (Angie) Marie Baldwin, Jeremy Benjamin Baldwin, and Debra (Debbie) Elizabeth Warth; his former wife, Christine Williams (née Breck); his grandchildren, Grace Smith (née Baldwin), Anna Baldwin, Emily Baldwin, Brittany Kepic (née Baldwin), Kathleen (Katie; née Warth), and Luke Warth; and his brothers and sisters, Paul Baldwin, Chris Williams, Diane Williams, Blake Baldwin, and Jeffery Baldwin.
He was preceded in death by his son, Adam Gregory Baldwin, his parents, William Darwin Baldwin Jr. and Cornelia Mae Baldwin (née King), and his brothers, Dennis Baldwin, Dana Baldwin and Matthew (Matt) Baldwin.
Bruce will be dearly missed.
Bruce wished to be laid to rest in his home state of Michigan, and his ashes will be spread by his family at a later date.
In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made in his name to The National Park Conservation Association. Memorials may be made here: https://support.npca.org/page/94933/donate/1
