He then TRIED to retire in Mexico, which lasted two short years before heading back to the states to Cocoa, FL. As a child, he helped build homes with his father, who was a contractor. This set the foundation for his next career as a cabinet maker/designer. He felt restless and later moved to Palm Coast which led to his final career, one in which fit him best. Twice elected Flagler County Commissioner. He loved serving his community through the process of government, meeting the residents, and his most favorite thing, chatting. He was seen and known around town as Charlie, whether at a restaurant for lunch or an organized function he said hello to all and the friendliness of the community was reciprocated. He was always available if someone was in need, such as delivering food during the hurricane, serving at the neighborhood soup kitchen, and volunteering at the drug court. Perhaps one of his favorite annual activities was being the lead bicyclist during the AdventHealth Pink on Parade Runs.
In between all these careers he also found the time to become an avid bicyclist in his later years, culminating with his bicycle odometer reading higher miles than the circumference of the earth. He enjoyed cruising as often as he could, artists and musicians, especially Linda Cole's music. And the love and company of his 2 Dachshunds Molly and Gracie. He had an incredibly full 80 years of life.
