Charles William Kim, an award-winning journalist and author, passed away in Orlando on Dec. 9, 2023, at 8:15 p.m., surrounded by loved ones. He was 60. Born on January 20, 1963, in Binghamton, N.Y., under a different name, Charles was legally adopted at 9 weeks old by George and Elizabeth "Betty" Kim.
Despite being aware of his adoption from an early age, Charles cherished the Kims as his parents, a sentiment he openly expressed and later incorporated into his writings. Raised in Afton, N.Y., Charles later moved to New Jersey, where he forged a successful career as an award-winning journalist for over 30 years, contributing to various newspapers, including Greater Media and Newsmax. He authored two books, "Paper Coup" and "Costly Shadows."
Charles was known for his passion for hobbies and love of classic films. For his family, especially his daughters, Leah and Katherine, he enjoyed fishing and Dark Shadows. Among friends, he engaged in various strategy games such as MAGIC, D&D, Risk, and Chess, often accompanied by Star Trek or James Bond screenings. In his later years his primary passion, bowling, flourished; and he actively participated in several bowling league circuits. Known as "DJ" among his bowling friends, Charles even initiated the creation of a special "Best of the House" Tournament league.
Surviving Charles are his two daughters, Leah and Katherine, as well as his five grandchildren: Michael, Katelynn, Richard, Thomas, and Anthony. Charles expressed his wish for cremation with burial in his parents' family plot in New Jersey, accompanied by a Mass of Remembrance.
