Doris Heck Morgan beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and dear friend went peacefully from this earth on July 31, 2012. She was an amazing woman of grace who served her Lord, her family, her church and her community.Today we rejoice in the knowledge that she is forever at home with her Lord and Savior.Doris was born in 1922 to Carl and Violet Heck. She grew up in New York City and moved to Orlando in 1939, graduating from Orlando High School. She soon met her future husband, Ivan Morgan, and they married in 1942, while he was enrolled in flight training school in Mississippi. They returned to Orlando where they raised their four children, Dick, Shirley, Chris and Steve. Doris loved caring for her family (with a little help from our dear Annie), cooking incredible meals, hosting dinner parties, raising orchids, playing bridge, collecting antiques and traveling with Ivan. She was active in the Jr. League, the Rosalind Club and the Country Club of Orlando and she served on the boards of the Christian Service Center, the Community Coordinated Care for Children (4C’s) and the American Field Service, an international student exchange program which led to her opening their home to Jorge, a student from Argentina. Ivan’s death in 1971 from cancer left her a widow at a relatively young age. She faced this loss with strength and courage and dedicated herself to serving her church, First Baptist of Orlando, where she mentored young people in the Good Thief coffee house, served on the committee which oversaw the interiors of the new John Young Parkway campus buildings and served as president of her Sunday School class. She adopted and raised 2 Dobermans, and each became her constant companion. As her grandchildren began arriving, she became their beloved Maw Maw. Her great sense of humor and abundant love made her home a very special place to visit. Her family will miss her encouraging spirit, her unconditional love and her amazing caramel cake but we will be forever grateful for the privilege of knowing and loving this incredible woman of grace. Doris is predeceased by her parents, her two sisters, Shirley and Elsa Mae and her husband, Ivan. She is survived by her children Dick, Shirley, Chris (Dianna) and Steve (Elaine); her grandchildren Jeanne Hall (Chad), John Morgan (Lorena), Bo Morgan (Lauren), Blair Morgan, Jeffrey Morgan, William Morgan, Edmond Morgan, James Morgan, Mark Morgan, Claire Morgan and David Morgan, six great-grandchildren, nieces and many dear friends.
