Dorothy Clausen Nelson, of Longwood, FL passed away August 24, 2018. A member of St. Mary Magdalen parish since 1971, she was active in several ministries and was a member of St. Gerard’s Circle. She was the daughter of Leo and Bertha Hawkins and grew up in Hartford, Wisconsin where she met and married Dean Clausen, following his Marine Corp duty in WWII and his graduation from the University of Wisconsin. Dorothy was a registered nurse and homemaker. She and Dean lived in Wisconsin where their 4 children were born. In 1960 they moved to Larchmont, NY and in 1971 to Florida. Dorothy was a devoted mother and friend and enjoyed gardening, playing bridge and golf.
She was widowed in 2003 and met and married Walter C. Nelson in 2005 and they lived at Village on the Green, where she made many lasting friendships. She is survived by her husband Walter and 3 children Gail Titen (Andrew), Jeffry Clausen, Mary Collins (Jeffrey) and a second son David (Kathy) preceded her in death in 2006. She has 9 beautiful grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 22nd at 1:00 pm at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 710 Spring Lake Road, Altamonte Springs, FL 32701 followed by a reception at Village on the Green 500 Village Place Longwood, FL 32779. Donations can be made to Brede-Wilkins Scholarship Fund at Village on the Green, the National Parkinson Foundation and mass intentions at St Mary Magdalen Church 407-831-1212.
