Wife, mother, and elementary school teacher, Gail Yagci passed away on February 15, 2021 at the age of 49 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

Gail completed her Master’s degree in Special Education at FSU in 1999, and most recently taught at Riverdale Elementary School. Her pride was in her students, where she shared her heartfelt support and passion for learning with hundreds of children over the years.

Gail’s pleasant personality was contagious to everyone she met. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to her. She loved spending time in nature and in her garden, often finding beauty where others might miss. She loved staying fit through yoga and healthy cooking, and loved traveling, especially attending theatre and visiting museums. Mostly, she loved her family.

Gail is survived by her husband, Hurkan Ali Yagci, her beloved son, Kaya Yagci, and her two brothers, John O’Keefe and Paul O’Keefe.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm, February 28th, 2021 at Family Funeral Care, 13001 S John Young Pkwy, Orlando, FL 32837.

I started college and absolutely hated it. I had a horrible roommate and no friends, that is, until I met Gail. We became the best of friends and lived together from our 2nd semester thru the following 4 years. We had incredible times. We knew each other in and out. I remember sitting in the college library studying and looking out the windows. Up walks Gail, who was just returning from her weekend at home. I took one look at her and knew instantly that something was wrong just by the look on her face. I was two stories up, I ran down to her; that was the day her dad died. She was to young to go thru such a tragedy. Upon our graduation, we went in different directions, yet still stayed in touch. She moved to FL to be with her family. I spent many of trips with them. Later, I moved to FL. Our friendship was as strong as ever. I was there when she came home from NYC and could not stop talking about the handsome server she met! Ali, her love at first sight, her one true love. She was so lucky to have found that in her life. Thru the years, I married as did she. I ended up moving back to NY with my husband to raise my daughters and be with my family. We never completely lost touch but led different lives. However, when we spoke or chatted thru the internet, we would pick up on the same sentence that we left off on. That is absolutely a true friend. There was never that awkward silence of not knowing what to say. One day, I received a phone call asking me to come and help her recover from surgery. Ali was in Turkey tending to his ailing father. The circumstances were unfortunate, yet, I was truly blessed to have spent this week with her and getting to know her incredible son. In my short time there, I saw the love that he had for his mother was so fierce. Kaya slept with me every night. We would tell each other stories and talk about his mommy. Ali and Kaya, my heart is with you both. Gail was, and is, an angel who will always be with us

I met Gail as a teacher at Riverdale Elementary and eventually our classrooms were next to each other. I knew Gail to be kind, sweet, and caring, especially with her students. I didn’t know it at the time, but I had really met Superwoman!

When she left teaching to fight her battle, I continued to follow Gail on Facebook. It was through her fight that I found out how brave and fierce she was. Her positive Can Do spirit was inspiring!

Gail’s spirit will live on in all the people’s lives she touched.

Rest In Peace Superwoman!

I met Gail as a teacher at Riverdale Elementary. At one point her classroom was next to mine and I got to know her. She was sweet and caring, especially about her students.

I didn’t know that I had just met Superwoman! After she left teaching, I followed her on Facebook. As she sought treatment for cancer, I saw the amazing woman she was. She was not only strong and fierce, but she fought cancer with a positive Can Do attitude.

Whenever I had to face a challenging event, I would think of Gail (Superwoman) and try to face my situation with a more positive attitude. I was fortunate to know her and Gail will continue to have an impact on me.

Rest In Peace Superwoman!

I will miss you Gail. You have been my neighbor and friend for 19 years. A friend I could always rely on and a friend who could ask me for anything. It could be days we didn’t talk and yet when we would see each other, we picked up where we left off. I will miss our coffee and chats on your sofa. May you Rest In Peace my beautiful friend.
