Sam came to America as a young man with a dream of achieving economic stability working as a migrant worker in the agriculture industry in various states, before finally settling down in South Bay, FL. He met and married the love of his life, Cecelia “Jean” Dowe. Nothing gave him more joy or fulfillment than his family.
He retired from South Bay Growers/US Sugar after 25 years of service. During his retirement, he has enjoyed gardening, playing dominoes, and spending time with family and friends.
Sam’s sunset came on January 21, 2021.
Sam is survived by his wife of 47 years (Cecelia “Jean” Dowe); his children (Veronica, Anthony, Antoinette, Diane, Cynthia, & Pauline); his grandchildren (Jessica, Natasha, Nadia, Te’Angelo, Janelle, Andrew, Delicia, Hariesha, Tianna, Ciara, Aubri, & Jaiden); great-grandchildren (Te’Angelo Jr., Janiyah, Jayla, David III, Anslee, Ariah, Akeem, & Rontaje); Son-in-Laws (Darwin, Harold & Matthew); surving brother (Ivan) and two surviving sisters (Vinola & Dorothy).
He also has a host of family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Sam was known for his belief in respecting others and prioritizing education. He always preached to "get your education first," so you could aspire to be whatever you want in life. He was also a storyteller like no other- if you would lend him your ear- you'd better be prepared to stay a while. His jovial demeanor, friendliness, love and laughter brightened up any room.
He will truly be missed, but never forgotten!
