James Lee Perdue was born January 6, 1944 in Smithers, W. Virginia. He was the second of five children, and the only son born to Ralph and Irene Perdue. At the age of 10 he received Christ as his personal Savior in Sunday School. Sometime around age 11, his health caused the family to move to Florida, and settled in Brandon for five years, and then to the St. Pete – Largo area. He attended and graduated from Largo High School in1962. While in high school he became interested and involved in an engineering apprenticeship program.

He soon realized that God was calling him to fulltime ministry work and thus in obedience to God’s call, he began Trinity Bible College in Dunedin, FL. At the end of his first year, he was challenged to become involved in a children’s ministry called Child Evangelism Fellowship for the summer. There he met Sharon and served the Lord for 2 summers. They were then married on May 24, 1968, and he then finished his last year of Bible college. They sensed God’s call to CEF local directorship and thus attended CEF 3-month leadership training school in Muskegon, MI, after which they came to Orlando area in August 1969, and have served the Lord in CEF fulltime until December 2013, when he had to retire due to failing health.

He continued to faithfully reach children in the CEF Good News Club school ministry until one week before he passed away on April 5th, 2018. They had 3 wonderful children, Rebekah, Timothy and Jamey, who gave them 7 wonderful grandchildren: Daniel, Anna, Marcus, Randal, Raymond, Grace and Austin. Jim and Sharon missed reaching their 50th wedding anniversary by 49 days (May 24th).

Hi Mr Jim, this is how I always call you. I remember we met because of "Luis Palau". I was looking a Christian hero story for my Sunday school class. But the book was temporary sold out. I left my card in the CEF office to call me when the book was back. You called me next day, not for the book but asked me if I would like to serve in CEF ministry to support the local office as a bookkeeper. That was my first calling from the Lord to serve Him outside the church. Since then, 20 years has passed, and it is just like yesterday. Mr Jim, you are the most Christ Like person I have ever known, and through you I have learned and grown a lot as His faithful servant and a passionate sister. I still remember the last time I called you about 5 years ago for a small matter, but indeed I forgot a song and wanted you to teach me. I said " .... by the say, do you know a song .... something 365 days ..." Then you sang it right away to me "God wants to spend time with just you just you, God wants me to spend with just you, 365 days of a year God wants to spend time with just you ...." I believe now you wear your Crown of Life and sit next to the Lord and pray for us "Lord, may your will be done on earth just as it is in heaven." Amen. I will always miss you!!

Love
Joannie

Dear Mrs Perdue, I love you and I love Mr Perdue. You were the first family that welcomed me into your home, your hearts and your lives. I loved being a summer missionary and I lived each week anticipating Teen Action Night. You were both so special to my Mom and I know she is talking with Mr Perdue in heaven. Mr Perdue lived his life for Jesus and for the children to come to know Him. I will always remember the love and example of how a father should love his children. and for the difference he made in mine. Rebekah, Tim & Jaimey, Im so sorry that your dad isnt with you but I know that "it is well with his soul". Im praying and sending my love to you all.

Mr. Jim came into my life at a time when I was at a spiritual crossroads, I was a Christian teen looking use my faith in a meaningful way. With Mr. Jim as my local director I found a purpose and a way to be intentional about my faith. I know it was the Lord who brought him into my life, and I miss him now more than ever. Praying for his family during this time.

I was in the 5th grade when my family moved to the Orlando area and joined Aloma Church (at that time, Aloma Baptist). There were a few people I met right off the bat that made me feel like I had found my home. Mr. Purdue was one of those people. Children's Church was always a highlight for me-- the puppets, the stories, the way God's Word was delivered so I could absorb it and apply it to my 11 year old life. Mr. Purdue was instrumental in creating an environment where I could meet and relate to God as a child. When I was aged-out of Children's Church, I found my way back as a teenage volunteer. Mr. Purdue was always a constant, whether teaching a lesson, telling a story or watching and waiting in the corner of the room. My 7th grade year, 1990-1991, I believe, I had the privilege of being his student at The Master's Academy in the Christian High School Evangelism Service Training Class (CHEST). We learned how to break things down for children to help lead them to the Lord. It was a beautiful experience and BOY did he make the book of colors come alive! As an adult, bringing my children to the same church, my heart did flips the first day I picked up my daughter from Children's Church and saw Mr. Purdue watching and waiting in the corner of the room. It was such a blessing to know that my child had the same kind soul involved in her spiritual growth and learning. It is frequently said, we will never know the full impact of our life, until we are in heaven. I am humbled and comforted by the thought that on April 5th, 2018, the Lord took a moment to share with Jim Purdue the impact that his faithfulness had on my life. My heart goes out to Sharon and the rest of the family at this time. My prayers are with you all.

Because of Jim's testimony in the life of my family, I accepted Christ at the age of 10. After spending a summer in their home and working as a CEF Summer missionary, I dedicated my life to full time service as a teenager. Jim was a "brother" to my dad and a life long "family member" to me and my siblings. We have all tried to image the reunion he must have had with Dad! We will remember his stories and that wonderful laugh every time we think of him. Sharon, we love you. Our thoughts & prayers are with you and the kids.

Thank you Jim and Sharon for being used of God in our lives for 40 years! I always tell everyone you adopted this single mom and her son Eric 40 years ago! I really don’t know where we would be today if not for both of your lives and your impact! You took on vacations and fun events! God’s blessings to the family for sharing with us! I love you! Aunt Janet to the children!

The words of the song “Thank You” by Ray Boltz are the perfect words to describe the life and impact Jim Perdue had on my life and my brother’s life. If it was going to Good News Club at the Perdue’s across the street from our house on Bumby on Fridays to Teen Action Night, Summer Missionary training in Clearwater, Camp Good News and playing football with me, my brother Bill and David Pocius at Azalea Lane Park in Winter Park, Jim was definitely a giving and influential person. To take words from the song, “My child look around you...great is your reward.” And lastly, “I am so glad you gave.”

Jim, has been a mentor, friend, prayer warrior and "Dear Brother" in Christ for 38 years. Jim is one of the finest men that I have ever known. Like, Nathanael, . . .

(Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile! {Guile is the quality of being good at deceiving people in a clever way} ~John 1:47; KJV) . . .

There was never any guile in James Lee Perdue. We prayed together, We played together, We laughted together, We cried together. I TRULY LOVE JIM PERDUE.
