Jane Ellen Jones (neé Condon) peacefully passed away on June 20, 2023 at her home in Orlando, FL. She was the wife of the late Wendell Jones, and the mother to Janell Galuski (Christopher), Thymme Jones and the late Julie Healy (Tom). She is survived by her two loving grandchildren, Micaela Chandler and Taylor Chandler, as well as her brother, Warren Condon (Carol), and sister-in-law, Patricia Condon, along with several nieces. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jim Condon, and her sister, Dr. Doris Allen.
Jane was born on January 18, 1938, in LaPorte, IN, to Olive and Joseph Condon (both deceased). She received a Bachelor's Degree at Ball State University and went on to become a (very good) elementary school teacher at Pleasant Hill in Palatine, IL. (However, she never taught children beyond the third grade, because "I don't like when the kids are taller than me.")
Jane lived a long, extraordinarily healthy life, filled with colorful friends, going all the way back to her earliest days in Westville, a small Indiana town. Most of her childhood took place within about a two-mile radius: her family home was in view of her grammar school (where her mom taught for many years), which was next door to her high school (where both of her brothers played basketball), which was a quarter-mile away from the popular '50s/'60s hangout, the Blackhawk Grill (a spot that her children also got to enjoy throughout the '70s and early '80s)... and that was three blocks from the town gas station (which her dad happened to own).
Jane could present as a bit of an introvert, but, with her dry sense of humor and unwavering spirit, she always managed to acquire a multitude of friends wherever she went. Initially, she was hesitant to leave her dear friends and Chi-Omega sisters in Fort Myers, even vowing to become a "hermit" when first moving into her 55+ apartment building in Orlando (Overture), but she quickly found herself surrounded by a rather robust group of loyal, card-playing, wine-drinking friends. Now happy to call Orlando her home, she enjoyed her remaining years with a full social calendar, greatly enhanced by her daughter and two granddaughters.
Indicative of her introvert/extrovert nature, her favorite activity was cruising around with the top down in her Mustang convertible. Although this was primarily a solitary endeavor, it brought her "just enough" attention and excitement in her otherwise fairly even-keeled, unassuming day-to-day existence.
One of Jane's greatest strengths was knowing exactly what she wanted in life, and not settling for anything less. She lived life with integrity and (whenever possible) simplicity, and everyone who was with her til the very end, lovingly supporting her in all of her wishes, can attest to this.
A Celebration Of Life will be held at Smith Corcoran Funeral Home on Friday, July 14, from 3:00pm to 7:00pm, with the service from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. Jane asked that people wear bright and vibrant colors. (Formal clothing optional.)
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared for the Jones family in the online guest book below.
