

John Horace Colvin Senior, age 91, a WWII veteran, passed away Jan 5, 2011 in Orlando, FL with Vera, his wife of 66 years by his side. The cause of death was pneumonia. He was born in Athens, Texas on December 1, 1919 to Hester Colvin and Ambrose Colvin. He served his country in the Civilian Conservation Corp, joining the Army Air Corp in 1943. He piloted the P-61 Black Widow night fighter. He met his life’s love, Vera, and was wed to her on March 12, 1944 in Orlando. Upon honorable discharge John worked for many years as a PBX installation supervisor for Pacific Bell telephone company in Los Angeles. Upon retirement, John and Vera moved back to Orlando and spent many happy years traveling the country in their travel trailer, boating, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of Orlando First Baptist Church.John is survived by his beloved wife, Vera; daughter Dr. Marilyn L. Wright; grandchildren Adam Colvin, James Wright and Scott Wright; and many nieces and nephews. His son, John H. Colvin Jr and his sister Jewel Meredith predeceased him.Visitation is from 6 to 8 pm at Colonial Chapel Carey Hand on Monday. Services will be conducted by Pastor Ragan Vandegriff of the Orlando First Baptist church on Tuesday, Jan 11, 2011 at 11 am at Chapel Hill cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial donation to the Salvation Army.
