

Kathleen (Kay) Louise Yarborough Reid, 90, passed away peacefully at her home December 13th in Orlando, Florida. She was born 7 June 1923 in Chester, South Carolina. Kay dropped out of High School to work in the Textile Mills. In May of 1944, Kay enlisted into the Woman’s Army Corps. After completing Basic Training, Kay would serve in several stateside duty assignments ending with her honorable discharge in June, 1948 at the rank of Corporal. While in service, Kay was able to obtain her GED. Kay married William Verne Reid, Sr. on 5 July 1948 in Lafayette, Indiana. Kay would settle in Orlando, Florida in 1955 when her husband was transferred to then Pinecastle Air Force Base. Following the passing of her husband, William in March, 1978, Kay enrolled in Orange County Vocational School taking business courses. Kay then was employed as the Business Manager for the Mortgage Bankers Association where she worked until she retired. Kay was very proud of her military service and was an active member of the Greater Orlando Chapter 73 of the Woman’s Army Corps Veterans Association. Kay is survived by her daughter, Lynn Marie Reid, son, William V. Reid Jr., grandson, Garrett Reid, sisters Betty Jean Shockley, Ruby Bleddyn, and a brother, James Yarborough, all of Orlando, Florida. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home. Kathleen Louise Reid’s visitation will be held on 17 Dec 2013 from 6 to 8 PM at Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home, 2811 Curry Ford Road, Orlando, FL. A graveside service will begin at 2 PM on 18 Dec 2014 at Woodlawn Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Colonial Chapel/Carey Hand, Orlando, FL.
