Dr. Maria Rosario Casas Ruiz, 98, of Orlando, Florida passed away on July 28, 2014. Born in Mantanzas, Cuba in 1916 she moved to Miami in 1964 with her husband, Dr. Guillermo V. Ruiz (deputy chief Medical Examiner for Orange/Osceola County). Charo as she was know to her friends studied Medicine at the University of Havana and graduated in 1947. They moved to Orlando in 1965 and completed their Medical training at Orlando Regional Hospital. Charo worked for Orange County Public Health Department and retired in 1986. Charo is survived by her daughter, Dr. Maria R. Ruiz (Professor at Rollins College) of Winter Park. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 11am at Knowles Chapel at Rollins College. Gathering will be Thursday from 6-9pm with service at 7pm at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, Ivanhoe Chapel, 301 NE Ivanhoe Blvd., Orlando, FL.
