June 9, 1969 – September 28, 2026
Michael Keith Carley, born June 9, 1969, in Pensacola, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on September 28, 2026.
Keith was remarkably intelligent, creative, talented, kind and strong. Perhaps one of the things those closest to him will remember most was his calm nature. He had a quiet steadiness about him, a wonderful sense of humor and an endless curiosity about the world around him. Keith also had strong convictions. He stood firmly for what he believed in and wasn’t afraid to stand up for others. His strength and his kindness were equally a part of who he was.
Keith was someone who seemed able to learn, build or create almost anything he set his mind to. He was a gifted artist who could draw and paint, work with wood, create with papier-mâché and transform ordinary objects into something interesting and beautiful. Among his many creations were guitars he made from cigar boxes. His creativity wasn’t limited to one medium—it was simply part of the way he saw the world.
His talents extended to the mechanical as well. Keith graduated from motorcycle mechanics school, combining his natural curiosity with his ability to understand how things worked and to work skillfully with his hands.
Keith had a deep connection with nature. He loved plants and had a remarkable green thumb. He was fascinated by insects, reptiles and animals of all kinds. While living in California, he loved exploring the canyons and woods with his dog, Boo, by his side. Fishing was another favorite pastime, including many hours spent fishing along the quay wall in Chicago. He found happiness in being outdoors, exploring and appreciating the natural world.
Animals held a particularly special place in Keith’s heart. His cats weren’t simply pets—they were his family and companions, and he loved and cared for them as his children.
Keith is survived by his parents, Homer and Wanda Carley; his sister, Tracy Bell; his brother, Thomas Carley; his nephews, Jesse Turley and Jackson Bell; his longtime friend, William Csepely; and his beloved cats, Susie and Mia.
Keith will be remembered for his intelligence and creativity, his strength and convictions, his humor and calm spirit, his love of nature and animals, and his extraordinary ability to create something beautiful with his hands.
His absence leaves a space that cannot be filled. But the things Keith created, the places he explored, the laughter he brought, and the memories he gave those who loved him will remain.
Keith was deeply loved and will be deeply missed.
