His military service included a tour in Vietnam and Korea. During his distinguished military career, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and multiple Good Conduct Medals. He received an honorable retirement from the United States Army in 1980.
His military career took him to many places around the world, including Germany, Spain, the Philippines, Guam, and multiple states in USA. His family often followed him wherever duty called, creating a lifetime of memories and experiences that shaped generations of his family. Being an Army family meant embracing new places, new experiences, and the many adventures that came with a life of service.
Following his military service, Modesto continued his career in public service as an auditor with the Federal Government, Department of Agriculture. He was also a graduate of Ramirez Commercial College, where he studied accounting and finance.
Faith was an important part of Modesto’s life. He was a member of Oviedo Presbyterian Church – El Redentor. He came from a family with deep Christian roots, and his legacy of faith continues through his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Rivera and Aracelis Partida; his daughter-in-law, Ines Rivera; his grandchildren, Nikol Lawyer, Stefany Colom, Rebecca Rivera, Alberto-Gabriel, and Aracelis-Celeste Partida; his son-in-law, Alberto Partida; and his extended family and loved ones who will carry his memory forward.
Modesto had a lifelong love for baseball, dominoes, and boxing. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and the companionship of family and friends.
A Precious Final Chapter
One of the most meaningful chapters of Modesto’s life was his final season. As his health declined, his daughters, Nancy and Aracelis, lovingly cared for him and walked alongside him through his final years. What began as a season of uncertainty became a beautiful opportunity for renewed closeness.
Through their love and care, they were able to give back to their father for all the years he had spent providing for and caring for his family. Those final years became a precious gift—filled with moments of grace, cherished memories, and the opportunity to honor their father in a deeply personal way.
When the Lord called Modesto home, he left peacefully, surrounded by love and with his family comforted by the knowledge that his earthly journey was complete and that he is now in the presence of our Lord and Savior.
After nearly a century of life, Modesto leaves behind a legacy of service to his country, devotion to his family, perseverance through life’s many seasons, and faith that will continue through the generations.
His family takes comfort in knowing that he is now at peace and in the presence of the Father who loves him perfectly.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23.
