Nelson Shields Jr.

Nelson graduated from Huntington High School in Newport News, Virginia.

He worked for the United States Postal Service for 30 years until he eventually retired to focus on family.

He was a faithful member of Triumphant Living Church in Orlando, Florida, where he was ordained as a Deacon.

Nelson was a member of the Leaders and the Velours singing groups. He had a passion for singing, discussing the Bible and coaching youth basketball.

Nelson was preceded in death by his son, Nelson Shields, III; his parents; 3 sisters; and 1 brother.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jane Shields. He also leave to cherish his memories: daughters, Pat, Darlene, Vicky (Tyrone), Babs (Adrian), Rhonda (Charlie), Desiree (Dwight) and Denessa; 11 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sister, Predella (Tyrone); brother, Robert (Loretta); nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 21st from 4:30 to 6:00 pm, with a service beginning at 6:00 pm at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Homes, Conway Chapel, 1413 S. Semoran Blvd., Orlando, Florida 32807.

Visitation will also be held Thursday, April 23rd from 9:00 to 11:00 am, with a service beginning at 11:00 am at C. C. Carter Funeral Home, 3700 Marshall Avenue, Newport News, Virginia 23607.

A Committal Service will be held at Peninsula Memorial Park, 12750 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23606, on April 23, 2026, at 1:00 pm.
