Otto I. Franco, 91, passed away on September 1, 2026. Born on November 7, 1934, Otto built a life defined by steady dedication, loyal devotion to family, and a gentle, kind-hearted presence that made him truly beloved. Otto carried himself with thoughtful care and a quiet generosity, and he was known as much for his gentlemanly charm and sense of style as for the warmth and humor that so often put others at ease. Otto resided in Orlando, Florida.
Otto’s life reflected hard work and perseverance across many seasons and places. His early years included work connected to the inoculation of natives in the Colombian Amazon, and he later served as Director of Transit in Soacha, Colombia. In 1961, Otto arrived in New York City to set up a job and an apartment ahead of the arrival of his wife and toddler daughters in 1962—an act that spoke to his dutiful nature and his steadfast commitment as a provider. He purchased his first home in 1973 in NYC, and in 2001 he moved to Orlando, where he purchased his second and final home, fulfilling the American dream. In later years, he worked in the service industry, most recently at Gaylord Palms Resort, where his reliability and considerate manner were part of the legacy he left with those who knew him.
A devoted husband, loving father, and steady presence, Otto placed family at the center of his life. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Mriela Franco and his brother Manuel Franco. He is survived by his children Jacqueline, Marcela, and Otto Jr.; his grandchildren Amanda, Nichole, Marc, Michelle, Danielle, and Alex; his brother Jairo; and his sister Amanda.
Otto found joy in family gatherings and trips, treasuring time together and the bonds that held everyone close. He also loved music and, when he was young, played the accordion and percussion—an early expression of the spirit and charm that stayed with him throughout his life. Otto was deeply proud to become a U.S. citizen in 1976, and he voted every year thereafter, a faithful practice that reflected both gratitude and a strong sense of responsibility.
