A very bright light has gone out in North Springfield and beyond! We feel SO very fortunate to have known and loved Sandy! Our sons' lives are much richer for having had Sandy as coach, mentor, and friend. Peter and I have cherished her friendship and her wisdom all these past 30+ years, and we have admired her fierce loyalty to her family, her community, and her friends! We love you, Sandy, and you will be tremendously missed! Love, Marynelle and Peter

The Berry family sends belated condolences to the Kauffman family upon learning of the death of Sandy.  She was, and always will be, a special person to us and to others.  We knew her as a mother, coach, friend, and neighbor.  Her primary focus was her family and children, but she also had time for adults with swim lessons at the pool and exercise classes at her home; the door was always open.  We are grateful to have known her and to have these memories.

February 16,2022  From The Goldin Family, Sue , Joey, Michael, and Jeff.  We are all saddened to hear about the passing of Coach Sandy. She was an inspiration to all my children, Joey, Michael and Jeff.  My boys will miss her alot. They respected Coach Sandy and she was their mentor and very good friend. North Springfield will miss talented lady. She was a great friend to our family and will never be forgotten. The North Springfield Dolphins Swim Team will never forget her. We all will miss her terribly.

The Black family, Leo, Martie, Heidi, Craig and Heather, are saddened to hear of the loss of Coach Sandy. Her optimistic smile greeted us every summer morning. She was a true friend and mentor to children as well as to the North Springfield adults. Our sympathy goes out to her loving family.  Sandy truly made a difference.  She will be missed. I know she’s swimming with the dolphins now. 

Sandy was a wonderful long time friend who I met through children's swim program at North Springfield (NSSC) during the 70's.  I loved getting a chance to chat  and catch up with her on family and mutual friends.  Participated in her home exercise group for many years and she even found time for me when the rest of the girls no longer attended! Sandy Kauffman was the best sister a girl could ask for!  The 12 1/2 year age difference certainly changed throughout our lives from me being the baby sister, to becoming an aunt at 8 years old to the first of her four awesome kids, to having her support when I made the decision to move our mom to Florida with me, to being buddies and having amazing vacations together and finally as two senior citizens living together!  Losing her so quickly has been hard to believe and I’m going to miss her so much. I know a special Angel comes to get you when it’s time to cross over. I’m sure it was her daughter Denise who lead the way and then introduced Sandy to her dad Howard Francis Wertz who was killed in World War II before she was 2 years old. She had a huge presence in all of our lives and left a legacy of love and caring. Cheers to you my sister for 79 years well lived. I’ll love you forever. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
