

Monsignor Sebastian Angles, 94, of Orlando, Florida passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at his residence. One of four children, Monsignor Sebastian was born November 21, 1917 in Aleixar, Tarragona, Spain and was the son of the late Pablo and Rosario Angles. He is survived by his youngest brother.
Monsignor Angles wanted to become a priest from his earliest days in Catholic primary school. He began studying his baccalaureate degree with Padres Paules of Bellpuig, Lerida, Spain. He entered the training of the priesthood with Padres Paules in Palm Mallorca in the Baleares Islands. In 1937 he entered military service with the troops of General Francisco Franco where he served as a nurse and assisted his wounded brothers. After the war, he returned to his training for priesthood.
On July 16, 1944, Monsignor Angles was ordained a priest. His first apostolic works were as a teacher in the schools of Bellpuig, Spain. In 1947 he was sent to Honduras where he served for 4 years. In 1950 he returned to Spain and became a professor in the Apostolic College in Bellpuig, Spain.
In 1953 Monsignor Sebastian came to the United States to work with the community of Padres Paules. He lived in Brooklyn, New York where once again he served as a teacher and served in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church for 25 years. With another priest he founded Our Sisters of Mercy Catholic Church and The Monserrate Catholic Church. He continued working with the Catholic associations which included The Epiphany Catholic Church, Our Sister of the Pillar Catholic Church, and Holy Family Catholic Church. He also served as the chaplain of the hospital in Brooklyn.
In 1990 Monsignor Angles moved to Orlando, Florida as a retired priest where he continued his work in the many diverse parishes. In 2005 he was named Monsignor by Pope John Paul II. In 2009 he moved to Holy Cross Catholic Church where he assisted in the Cursillo Movement in the Orlando Diocese.
We would like to give thanks to Dominga Rodriquez who dedicated the past 22 years in the care of Monsignor Sebastian Angles. Words are not enough to express how grateful we are to Dominga for her dedication in this mission that she carried on with love and devotion for Christ and his servant, Monsignor Angles.
Visitation for Monsignor Angles will be at Holy Cross Catholic Church on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 from 4 – 7 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
The funeral mass will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. with The Most Reverend Bishop John Noonan officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
