Verna M. Estes

Verna Marie Estes, age 95, passed away on March 14, 2012 surrounded by her family at home. Verna is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Claude O. Estes Jr. She is survived by son, John M. Estes (Peggy) of New Orleans, LA. and daughter, Linda S. Estes of Orlando, FL. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Paul Estes (Rachel) of Seattle, WA., Sara Crow (Justin) of New Orleans, LA and Allison Estes of Orlando, FL. She was also the proud great grandmother to Emma Grace Crow of New Orleans, LA. Verna received formal training as a registered nurse from Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital, and was a full time mother. In later years she worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for Blankner and Bonneville Elementary Schools, retiring in 1979, after 16 years of service. She was a long time member of the Orlando Garden Club. The Sorosis Club of Orlando, and a lifelong member of the Downtown Baptist Church of Orlando. The service will be officiated by Pastor Carey Bates, from the Downtown Baptist Church

A visitation will be held at Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home, 2811 Curry Ford Road, Orlando, FL, on Saturday, March 17th from 5:00 pm until time of service at 6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of the Comforter or The American Heart Association would be appreciated.
