Alice Mary Pelrine Paroby

Alice passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of August 28, 2026, at the age of 94. She passed on the night of a beautiful full moon and lunar eclipse—a fittingly peaceful moment as she began her final rest.

Alice was the beloved mother of eight children: Kathleen Horsey, Maureen Stout, Patricia Range, Maryalice Smith, Jamie Trapp Moore, Leslie Lindstrom, W. Michael Paroby, and Carl Paroby. She was a proud grandmother to 16 grandchildren and great-grandmother to 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Walter Paroby, her parents Francis Pelrine and Angela Cunnane and her granddaughter Meredith Trapp.

Alice devoted much of her life to raising her family. She had high expectations for her children and lovingly sewed them matching outfits. An avid knitter, she made sweaters, socks, and hats, creating heirlooms that will last a lifetime.

Cape Cod held a special place in Alice’s heart. She and Walter brought their young family there every summer, and after retirement they fulfilled their dream of making Cape Cod their permanent home, living there for 30 years.

After her children were in school, Alice began a career in the Washington, D.C. area as an executive assistant, working in a variety of positions, including the Center for Bioethics at Georgetown University, Sargent Shriver, the White House, the CIA, and AT&T/Bell Telephone.

She was an advocate of serving her community including visiting children at the National Institutes of Health Children’s Ward, visiting hospice patients, bringing communion to patients at Cape Cod Hospital, and volunteering at Our Lady of Life Adoration Chapel in West Harwich.

Intelligent, creative, and funny, Alice had a wonderful flair for design and filled her eclectic home with treasures she discovered at thrift shops and garage sales. She loved reading, knitting, gardening, the arts, and sharing in 4pm “boom boom time” with her many friends.

In her later years, Alice lived at Broad Reach-Liberty Commons in Chatham, where she became close to the compassionate and skilled employees who cared for her. Her family is deeply grateful for the kindness and friendship they showed her and for the furry friends who visited her community there.

Alice will be lovingly remembered for her caring heart, determination, creativity, humor, and the lasting impression she made on those who met her. She loved pastel colors. We ask that you wear something colorful as we celebrate her life!

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, from 9:15- 10:15 at Nickerson Funeral Home, Orleans, MA. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Church. She will be interred at Holy Trinity Columbarium in W. Harwich, Massachusetts.
