Ann Scala (Motta) is now at perfect peace after passing away in Cape Cod ,MA., on Saturday, July 5th, 2014, in the company of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends by her side. She was the caring wife of the late Louis T. Scala (1984) with whom they shared forty four years as devoted life partners.
Ann was a proud native of Brooklyn , NY and Dumont , N.J. Ann was a long time parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Dumont where she was a member of the Rosary and Altar Society. In her later years she was a faithful member of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Sudbury and the Sudbury Senior Center .
Ann was a founding employee of Bloomingdales, in Hackensack , N.J. from 1959 – 1984. Blessed with a wonderful singing voice, Ann enjoyed singing along to the American Song Book at home and she would still entertain family and friends on special occasions. Wonderfully spirited and with a steely will, she was blessed with a loving support system, especially Andrea Shown, which enabled her to live independently until shortly before her passing. Ann’s family is especially grateful to the friends at The Glen, for their care, and friendship during the final chapter of her life here with us. She will be missed.
A gifted cook, she shined her best when she was in the kitchen! Although proclaiming her “retirement” from family cooking at age 90, her touch will always be present for her family.
What will be remembered most about Annabelle is her kindness to others and her ability to persevere. She would give you what she had even if she had very little to give, and in the end you cannot put a price on that quality because it is an enormity of selflessness.
Ann is survived by her loving daughter, Francesca Gallagher of Chatham , MA , her devoted son, Richard (Noreen) of River Edge, N.J. Left to cherish her memory is her four grandchildren, Kirsten Dean, Megan Glynn, Jason Scala, and Drew Scala. She will always be treasured by her five great-grandsons, Paul Dean, Michael Dean, Teddy Glynn, Patrick Glynn and Colin Glynn. Jared Leger will also miss Nana.
Cremation will be private. A gathering will be held from 3:00 – 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at Duckett Funeral Home, 656 Boston Post Road , Sudbury , MA . A funeral Mass will be held on August 4that 11 A.M. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 160 Concord Road , Sudbury , MA . 01776
