Arnold Christopher Cummins

Arnold Christopher (Chris) Cummins, passed away peacefully at the age of 91 in Harwich, MA. He was the devoted husband of Barbara Buckley Cummins for 65 years. Chris was born on August 5, 1927 in New York, NY to Thomas and Catherine (Grimes) Cummins. He grew up in the Bronx, graduating from Manhattan Prep School, Manhattan College and Brooklyn Law School. Chris served in the US Navy during WWII and Korea. He married Barbara Buckley on July 25, 1953 and raised their family in South Huntington, Long Island, NY. Nothing was more important to Chris than his family. He enjoyed sailing and camping with Barbara and their children. Always kind and giving, Chris was available to help with homework or cheer on his children’s sports teams. He was a devoted member of St. Elizabeth Church where he directed the High School religious program for a time. A long-time executive at the New York Telephone Company in Personnel Management, Chris showed himself be a safe and understanding person, always there to help. He retired in 1988, moving to Brewster, MA with Barbara to begin their next chapter on Cape Cod. They lived a full retirement as they traveled throughout the country and abroad. Proud of his Irish heritage, they made several trips to Ireland to visit his cousins and their families. Chris was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and the Brewster Historical Society. He was a member of the Brewster Men’s Club, the Brewster Flats at Maplewood Senior Living and a communicant at Our Lady of the Cape in Brewster. Chris is survived by his wife Barbara (Buckley) Cummins of Brewster, MA and their children Susan Caputo (Alex Alverez) of Northport, NY, Stacie McLaughlin (Dennis) of Barrington, RI and Christopher Cummins of Juneau, Alaska. He was a wonderful grandfather who will be missed by Jessica Brady (Kate Barvainis), Patrick Caputo, Melissa Alverez, Brian McLaughlin, Kathryn McLaughlin, Carolyn Cummins Brown (Cory), and Christopher “Kit” Cummins. He is pre-deceased by his parents, his sister, Alice Palmer, and grandson, Kevin Caputo. Chris also leaves his brother-in-law, Richard Palmer of Brewster, NY and nephews Thomas and Paul Palmer. He will be well remembered by his family in Ireland. A mass and service will be held at Our Lady of the Cape, 468 Stony Brook Rd. Brewster, MA, on Monday November 19th at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Brewster Memorial Cemetery. Following the burial, there will be a reception at Maplewood of Brewster, 820 Harwich Rd. Brewster, MA. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to Hope Hospice of Cape Cod, 73 Service Road, Sandwich, MA 02537.
