He attended College of The Holy Cross and received his bachelor’s in Administration.
He was a sophomore at Holy Cross when the Korean War broke out. It didn’t take him long to enlist in the Naval Reserves. Upon graduation, in 1952, he enlisted in the Army and served until his discharge in 1955 as a second Lieutenant.
He retired as CEO and Chairman of the Board after 38 years at Guardian Life Insurance Company of America.
He enjoyed fishing, golf, traveling, especially to Europe. He lived in many places during his life including: Westchester, NY, and Greenwich, CT, and of course, Cape Cod. He lived part time on Cape Cod since 1964 but became a full time Cape Codder in 2002.
He is predeceased by his first wife of 48 years, Isabel “Dolly” (Flynn) Ferrara, who passed away in 2000. He is survived by his wife, Susan (Nichols) Ferrara. He is also survived by his three children: Thomas Ferrara and wife Philomena of Pound Ridge, NY, Margaret Ferrara of Orleans, MA and James Ferrara and wife Doreen of Crestwood, NY, and stepdaughter, Erin Loos and husband Bill, of Pomfret, CT. Also survived by his sisters: Rosemarie Salamone of West Palm Beach, FL and Adelaide Monaco of Smithtower, LI and his brother Robert Ferrara of Sea Girt, NJ. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday December 20, 2018 from 4 – 7pm at Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, MA. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday December 21, 2018 at 10 am at St. Joan of Arc Church in Orleans, MA. Burial at Massachusetts National Cemetery will follow.
