Audrey Nickerson

Audrey Holmes Nickerson, a lifelong resident of Orleans, Massachusetts, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at “The Terraces” in Orleans. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard Charles Nickerson and mother of Nancy Manfredi, Phyllis Boufford and Byron Nickerson.

Audrey was born on January 5, 1923 to the late Byron F. Holmes and Ruella F. Crowell. She graduated from Orleans High School and later married her husband Richard C. Nickerson. Together they owned and operated Nickerson Funeral Homes - originally purchasing the business from Richard’s father and expanding the business to additional locations.

She loved socializing with family and friends. Audrey served as a member of the Orleans Finance Committee, as member of the Eastern Star, and as deaconess in the Orleans Federated Church. She loved reading, playing bridge, traveling, and golfing. The highlights of her golfing career include not one, but three (documented) “holes-in-one.”

Audrey is survived by her three children, Nancy Manfredi of California, Phyllis Boufford of New York, Byron Nickerson of Pennsylvania, six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She is pre-deceased by her husband and her grandson, Peter Cowen.

A visitation will be held on Monday, July 24, 2017 from 10am to 11am at the Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, MA. Her funeral service is scheduled to follow at 11am, concluding with burial in the Orleans Cemetery, Orleans, MA.
