

She was born on November 19, 1928, in Hyannis, to the late Robert and Leila (Webster) Allen. Barbara grew up in South Chatham in the family home that her Sea Captain and Great Grandfather built. She attended Chatham Public Schools and later attended Cape Cod Secretarial School.
As a young woman, Barbara worked in a bank in Boston and also for the New England Telephone Company. Once her family of six children were raised, she worked as a Hostess and Guide at the Wayside in Wayland, MA. In addition, she worked as a Home Health Aid to many persons through various agencies.
Barbara was exceptionally creative and was a gifted knitter and played the piano by ear. She will always be remembered as a joyful person with an enthusiasm for life, everything Cape Cod, and serving others. She was a person of faith and put it into practice to face life’s challenges. More than anything, she cherished the time that she shared with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, F. Lea Fates and their son, Kimball Fates.
She is survived by her two sons, Tobias Fates of North Carolina, Peter Fates and his wife, Lisa of Santa Rosa, CA; her three daughters, Rebecca Levine and her husband, William of Sharon, NH, Wendy Palmieri and her husband, Greg of Fresno, CA, Jennifer Hossfeld and her husband, Mark of Brewster, MA; her 11 grandchildren, Joshua and Benjamin Fates, Leah Levine, Katherine Provchi and her husband, Matthew, Michael Palmieri, Valerie Fates, Stephanie Hossfeld Downey and her husband, Matthew, Matthew Hossfeld and his wife, Jackie, Jessica Hossfeld, Ashley Fates, Zachary Fates,; her great grandchildren, Melody and Cadence Provchi.
She is also survived by favorite and only brother, Robert Leon Allen, her nephew, Robin Allen and her niece, Lucy Allen all who live in the southern California area.
A private celebration of her life will be shared by her family.
