Carol Ann (White) Conrad passed away peacefully on November 29th, holding the hand of her beloved husband until the end. Carol was born in Natick on December 29th 1936, to W Russell White and Sylvia (Ahola) White. She graduated from Hopedale High School and Becker Junior College. She was then employed as a receptionist at Draper Corporation in Hopedale.
On Cape Cod in the summer of 1957, Carol met a brand new Army Lieutenant named Hawkins Conrad. In February 1958 they were married, and two months later they were in Germany. While in Germany, their family increased; first with Hawkins Jr, then with Russell. Over the next thirty years, Carol made a home for her family in twenty different houses on two continents. She was a loving Mother to her sons, and a steadfast, loving wife to Hawk through the often trying times of the Cold War.
After retiring from the Army in 1987, Carol and Hawk settled in Eastham, where they had first met. Carol spent many happy days in her garden. She couldn’t allow anything green to die, and the window sills of the house were always crammed with plants undergoing rehabilitation. She also loved needlework, and crafted many beautiful pieces of cross stitch and embroidery. Carol’s passing leaves a great void in the hearts of her family.
Carol is survived by her loving husband, Hawkins; her sons Hawkins Jr and Russell (and wife Sara); her sister Susan Donnell (husband Michael); and her grandchildren Adam, Caleb, Maisie, and Edward.
Visiting hours will be at Nickerson Funeral Home, Orleans, from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM, and will be followed by a memorial service celebrating Carol’s life.
