
David F. Dudley, 62, died peacefully among his family on August 16, 2010 at Cape Cod Hospital, following a courageous battle with lung cancer. He always faced his battle with optimism, humor, music and smiles.
David Francis Dudley was born on August 4, 1948 to Louis Francis Dudley and Isolene Veronica (Garvin) Dudley. He was raised and educated in Glens Falls, NY. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education and a Master of Arts in Social Work. For 20 years, throughout the state of Massachusetts he strived to improve the lives of the homeless and less fortunate. He also worked for Stop & Shop for 25 years as an assistant Grocery Manager. He was admired and loved by his co-workers for his unusually strong work ethic and caring. They were his extended family.
David was lovingly known by his family and friends as Davy, Grandpa, Papa and Dave. His smile would light up a room. He married the love of his life, Barbara on August 14, 2001, the day he said his life truly began. He was a great and loving step-parent and grandpa. He would do anything for his family, they were his life.
Besides his wife, Barbara, he leaves behind his much loved step-daughters, Cassandra and Eileen, and his most cherished grandsons Aiden and Conner. He also leaves his sister Judy, brother-in-law Bob, sister-in law Michelle, several nieces, nephew, cousins and an aunt. He was pre-deceased by his parents and his older brother Joe.
He cherished the time he had with his family and friends doing what he enjoyed most, walking the beach, fishing, gardening and working on his home. He was a talented wood carver and freely gave his creations to family and friends. He was a beautiful, kind, generous, loving man who gave so freely of himself to those he loved. He will be greatly missed by everyone he touched.
In lieu of flowers the family would greatly appreciate donation in David’s memory be made to the Davenport-Mugar Cancer Center, Box 640, Hyannis, MA 02601.
A Memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, August 22, from 3 – 7 PM; with a service at 6 PM at the Nickerson Funeral Home 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, MA 02653.
