David R. Lund

David R Lund, long-time resident of Truro and Provincetown, died August 9, 2026 at Cape Cod Hospital, after a sudden illness. He was 77 years old. David was born in Norwood MA to the late Marjorie Woolner Lund and late Carlton Lund. David grew up in Dedham MA. For the last 31 years David lived on the outer Cape. David is survived by his husband Brian Renard, they had been together for 35 years. He was also survived by his sister Judith Newell and her husband Bruce, sister-in-law Sandra Leandro and her husband Bob, nephew Nicholas Marcoux and his wife Jessalyn, niece Brittany Marcoux McGuire and her husband Brian, his great nephews, Logan, Kaeden, and Cameron Marcoux and great nieces Nora and Vaida McGuire. He also leaves many loving family members and close friends.

David was a retired attorney who worked for the first openly LGBT law firm in Boston MA, led by attorney John Ward. The law firm took on and won some historic cases for the cause of LGBT rights. During the 80s and before, it was very hard for LGBT people to go to a law office to get legal services and feel comfortable and safe. This law firm provided that safety and comfort. During the AIDS epidemic, David helped men with an AIDS or HIV diagnosis, complete their last will and testament, he also offered this service pro bono for those who were unable to pay.

After moving to the outer Cape, David got very involved in the community, volunteering for several nonprofits and sitting on the boards of some of them, including Outer Cape Health Services, AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod, Soup Kitchen in Provincetown, and Ruthie’s Boutique thrift shop.

David was probably most proud of his 51 years of sobriety and his membership in Alcoholics Anonymous. David mentored numerous members over the years; many crediting him with saving their lives. David used his years of earned wisdom gained by working the Twelve Steps and helping others with their journey through early recovery and the Steps.

David was known for his sense of humor, his beautiful devilish smile, his kindness, his generosity, his hospitality to anyone who entered his home, his cooking, his wisdom and humility.

A celebration of life will be held in Providence Rhode Island Saturday, August 29, at the Bell Street Chapel, 5 Bell St. at 1pm.

Local services for David will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Meeting House, 236 Commercial St Provincetown on Monday August 31 at 11 AM.
