Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on October 5, 1959, he was the son of Russell Ernest Wood and Elsie (Lorenz) Wood. He grew up fishing and boating on Willett Pond (New Pond) in Walpole. There was always at least one Labrador in the house. He graduated from Walpole high school class of 1977, where he met his high school, sweetheart, Kelly Brown. They were married on May 20, 1978.
In 1979, David started his lifelong career in the plumbing and heating business, D. E. Wood Mechanical. Over the years, customers turned into great friends.
David and Kelly lived in Walpole, until they moved their family to Orleans in 1989, mainly to enjoy and be closer to Nauset Beach that they all loved so much. Many great memories were made throughout the years out on the beach.
David loved sports. He played them, and helped coach his sons, and grandsons. He rarely missed a practice or a game, whether it was at an ice rink, basketball court, or baseball diamond. He was there. His favorite had to be baseball, watching his sons and grandsons play. David was amazed at their work ethic and improvement over the years. He could be often heard saying.” Step one before step two, nice pitch, great hit, awesome catch, nice frame or block”. David became friends with a lot of the coaches, and made many good friends over the years. He was the best Papa, and definitely spoiled his kids and grandkids.
David had a love of fishing, both fresh and saltwater. A passion which he passed down to his children and his grandchildren. He knew all of the best fishing spots. If they weren’t casting, they would be treasure hunting, or just mucking around. Another past time was art. Whether it was just doodling or drawing with the grandkids or working on his own paintings. His love of nature and the outdoors were often depicted in his paintings.
His vast knowledge truly made him a jack of all trades, which he passed on to his children and grandchildren, and would gladly share with anyone who needed help. He would give you the shirt off his back. He was an all-around great guy.
David is survived by his loving wife Kelly. His daughter, Tiffany Wright, her husband, Randy, and their daughters Bridget, Emily, Amaya, and Marissa, all of Orleans. His son, Patrick, and his son‘s Brody and Hunter of Orleans and Barnstable. His son, Brian, and his children, Wyatt and Lillian of Eastham. His brother Kenny, sister, Linda, brother-in-law, Jim (his best friend and fishing buddy), Sister-in-law, Deb, and their families.
David’s devotion to his family will be sorely missed. His legacy lives on in the memories that were made with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He will never be forgotten.
A celebration of life will be held at Nickerson funeral home, 77 Eldridge Parkway, Orleans on Saturday, September 27, 2025 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.

“I cannot promise that I’ll be here for the rest of your life, but I can promise that I’ll love you for the rest of mine”
John 13:1. Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved who were in his world, he loved them to the end.
