Dennis “Denny” Dwight Sheehan, 76 of East Orleans, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on June 5, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family following a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Denny previously resided in Bristol and Killingworth, Connecticut before retiring to Cape Cod in 1998.
Born in Hartford, Connecticut on June 6, 1944, D-Day, otherwise known as “Denny Day” to his buddies. Son of Fredrick and Anna (Gallagher) Sheehan. Married 54 years to “The Love of His Life”, Margaret (Peggy) Steffany Sheehan. He leaves behind two cherished daughters, Anne (Derrick Piper) Sheehan of Poland, New York and Lisa (Todd) Holder of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Also he leaves two very special grandchildren, Megan and Mason Holder and three granddogs, Jade, Jasmine and Mia, Sister-in-Law Marilyn Sheehan and many nieces, nephews, golfing buddies and friends. Preceded in death by his brother, Ted Sheehan and niece, Donna Sheehan.
He graduated in 1967 from the University of Hartford with a business degree and worked for Aetna for over 30 years. He proudly served our country as a Platoon Sergeant in the Connecticut National Guard. He was an active volunteer at the Orleans Counsel on Aging along with helping the Nauset Garden Club with events at Crosby Mansion. Also, he was an avid golfer with 3 Hole in Ones at The Captains Golf Course in Brewster! In his younger days you could see Denny running the streets in town and later in life see him and Peggy walking all over town. Fly fishing was also a hobby he enjoyed with Peggy and their favorite fishing adventure was to New Zealand. He loved to feed the birds, read, go to the beach, watch UCONN Women’s Basketball and the New England Patriots. Spending time with his family brought great joy to him. He traveled to 47 of the 50 United States and many other countries. His favorite trips included walking the beaches of Normandy and Acadia National Park.
He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and the Chowda Group. In Denny’s honor, a bench will be placed on one of his proud Hole in One Tee Boxes on the Captains Golf Course. Toast Denny with a Bud Light or glass of Chardonnay and hang a bird feeder in your yard to always remember him by.
A special thank you to Sarah the care coordinator and the nurses at Privatus, Ginny, Angela and Sara for their care of Denny along with their compassion and support of the entire family.
A Celebration of Life will be held October 9, 2021 from 2–5pm at the Captains Golf Course in Brewster, MA. If you plan to attend, we would love to have you share memories of Denny.
