She graduated from Westfield High School, Westfield, NJ, and spent 3 years at Chatham College in Pittsburg, PA where she met her lifelong partner on a blind date. She was a loving mother and wife, raising her three girls in Sparta, NJ where she was active in the Sparta Presbyterian Church and many quilting groups. She volunteered for the Newton Hospital Auxiliary and Sparta Township School system. After moving to their home on Cape Cod, MA in 1997, she became active in the Orleans United Methodist Church. She was an avid quilter most of her life, and had joined many quilting groups on the Cape as well. She enjoyed making knitted baby bonnets for newborns and donating them to local hospitals. She was a passionate Red Sox fan. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Richard Glidden, and her daughters, Jane Walck (Bert Walck) of Tannersville, PA, Susan Bowens (Brian Bowens) of Shapleigh, ME, and Polly Payson of Orleans, MA and Fredon, NJ. Private arrangements will be postponed until a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your favorite charity. It was Betty’s wish that there be no memorial service, and those wishing to commemorate her life do so with a simple act of kindness.
