Florence Mary (nee Bidgood) Staples passed away in East Orleans on Saturday, July 18, 2015, surrounded by family and comforting prayer. She was born in Petty Harbour, Newfoundland, Canada, where she lived a happy childhood with her brother Roger and three sisters Mary, Margaret, and Eileen. In her thirties Florence moved to Boston for work where she met her wonderful husband Keith. Together they both had full and rewarding careers with Air Canada, affording them the opportunity to travel around the globe and make frequent visits with family in Newfoundland. Upon retirement they settled in their Pochet “Winds Aloft” home, their pride and joy, taking great pleasure in entertaining both family and friends. Summers were always the best time of year balancing their busy social calendar with their love of gardening and caring for the property. The past eight years without Keith proved to be difficult, but she faced them as she always has, with a strong and determined character. It was however, a blessing and comfort to Florence that her great nephew Matthew moved to Boston and shared a great deal of time with her throughout the past five years. Florence was fortunate to have such wonderful friends who took the time to visit and call, especially Lois and Alice. She leaves behind her loving sister Margaret Gosling, brother-in-law Austin Gosling, and family near and far who have all been patient, loving, and compassionate over the years.
There is great comfort knowing that Keith has finally greeted Florence with a kiss and a smile saying, “God love ya, welcome home.”
The family would like to thank the staff of The Orleans Terraces as well as Broad Reach Hospice for the compassionate care they provided.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Joan of Arc on Canal Road in Orleans, MA, where she was a devoted parishioner, on Monday August 3, 2015 at 11:00am. A burial will follow at the Orleans Cemetery. For online condolences, please visit www.nickersonfunerals.com
