

ORLEANS — Francis (Frank) Edward Lajoie died peacefully in his home on May 1, 2012 with his family by his side. Frank was born in Springfield, Massachusetts and attended West Springfield schools graduating from University of Massachusetts Amherst with a degree in Civil Engineering. He entered the Navy in 1950 and served in the Korean War. He was Chief Engineer on both the USS John Hood and the USS Stormes. He was married to the late Margaret (Peggy) Barrett Lajoie for 54 years. He leaves behind their seven children, Cathy Tivnan, Steven Lajoie, Susan Lajoie, David Lajoie, Amy Sullivan, Peter Lajoie and Christopher Lajoie, 16 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, John Lawrence Lajoie of Midlothian, Virginia. After leaving military service, Frank worked for Fruehauf Trailers and several engineering companies before starting his own building business in Southampton, Massachusetts. In 1966 Frank and Peggy moved their family to Cape Cod. After a successful building career there, Frank opened Felco Engineering, Inc., which is now owned and operated by his son, David. For over 40 years Frank was General Manager at Cape Cod Sea Camps in Brewster and recently retired as Director Emeritus from the Board of Directors at the camps.
Frank was passionate about flying, fishing on his boat out of Rock Harbor and traveling to visit his children. He and Peggy were often spotted at school events cheering on their children and grandchildren. He was involved with numerous organizations such as the Lions Club, and the RC Flying Club of Cape Cod and he was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and spent many hours during his lifetime building and flying remote control airplanes.
A Mass celebrating his life will be held on May 7, 2012 at 10 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Parish in Orleans with a burial at the Orleans Cemetery immediately following the service.
