Dr. Frank George Regan, Jr., of Orleans, MA died on September 23, 2025. Affectionately known as Scoop after working as a sports reporter for the Waterbury paper in high school, he was born on September 22, 1928, in Waterbury, CT, the oldest of Mary Marcella Dunne and Frank George Regan, Sr.’s three children.
Scoop grew up in Waterbury, graduated from Crosby High School in 1946, and matriculated to the College of the Holy Cross. He left Holy Cross after his Junior year to enter the Georgetown University School of Dentistry, graduating in 1953. To help support himself during dental school, he semi-successfully drove a District of Columbia cab for several years. He was commissioned as an ensign in the United States Navy in June 1952 and served his country at the Marine Corps Base Quantico on active duty for two years before retiring in 1960 as a lieutenant j. g. in the United States Naval Reserves.
On May 15, 1954, he and Gioia Anne Carusone were married in Saratoga Springs, NY. After their time at Quantico, they moved to Waterbury, CT, where he practiced dentistry until retiring in 1998. They raised their children in Waterbury before moving full-time to Orleans in 2009, where he had been every summer since 1941. His later years on the Cape provided endless enjoyment, golf, and visitors.
Professionally, Dr. Regan was a member of the Connecticut State Dental Association, Dental Society of Greater Waterbury, and served on the Statewide Grievance Committee for the Connecticut Judicial Branch in retirement.
He gave back to his hometowns of Waterbury and Orleans throughout his life. He served on the Board of Directors for Mattatuck Bank and the Bank of Waterbury. He was a member of St. Margaret Roman Catholic Church in Waterbury, St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church in Orleans, The Country Club of Waterbury, the Orleans Yacht Club, founding member of the Holy Cross High School Father’s Club, and the Serra Club. He believed in family, friends, character, and serving others.
Many of his life’s pleasures came from playing golf with his friends and family, doting on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, tending to his garden, playing cards, sunsets at Nauset Spit, and causing mischief. He told anyone who would listen about his four holes in one (and insisted that they be prominently mentioned in his obituary), several eagles, and one unfortunate golf cart that ended up in the pond by the 18th green.
Scoop is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years; four children, Patrick (Janet) Regan, John (Ruth) Regan, Margaret Regan, and Anne (Richard) Casson; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by infant twin sons, Joseph and Gerard, and his siblings, Antonia Brown and William Regan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, October 6, 2025, at St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church in Orleans, MA. Interment to be private. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all the employees at Liberty Commons for the wonderful care and treatment provided during the last few months. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joan of Arc or the College of the Holy Cross.
