Gaetano J. Bazzano “Tom” of Eastham, MA, formerly from South Windsor, CT passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on February 27, 2013 after a short battle with liver cancer. Tom was born May 21, 1934 in Hartford, CT , son of Sebastian and Jennie Bazzano. He attended Bulkeley High School and played football and track and field. He then went on to Rhode Island School of Design and graduated with a degree in Architectural Design. After two years of serving in the army, his career as an architect in Hartford grew, designing commercial and residential buildings in the area. Later, as his family started to grow, Tom worked out of his home that he designed and built with the help of his father on Beelzebub Rd in South Windsor, CT. Tom was very creative!
Tom married the love of his life, Cindy Pelton, almost 50 years ago on May 18, 1963. They met while Cindy was a student nurse caring for his youngest sister at Hartford Hospital. Cindy was enamored with Tom’s new red sports car, and fell in love with his thoughtful, attentive, caring nature and sense of humor.
Tom’s biggest accomplishment was his family. He was a hands-on father to his five children . From digging a pool in the back yard to making Halloween costumes and giving his children haircuts, Tom was always there. Later, as his kids grew up and moved to the Cape, he and Cindy retired to be near them. One of his dreams was to have his children work together in a family business. He fulfilled this dream by giving his children and their spouses the opportunity to work together in expanding the donut shops, The Hole In One, Eastham and Orleans, and later Fairway Restaurant in Eastham. Early on, Tom always enjoyed working alongside his kids in the bakery, making muffins and sweet rolls. His Italian roots and love of food made the Fairway Restaurant his second home. He was a fixture around the restaurant, and made an impression on all who worked there.
He is survived by his loving wife Cindy, devoted children, Kristina Bazzano, Erica Taber and husband Ken Taber, Jamie Wacht and husband Dan Wacht, Lori Field and husband Bob Field, and son Brent Bazzano, all of Eastham MA; two sisters Fran Lund and husband Peter Lund of South Windsor, CT and Lucy Murkette of Vernon, CT, grandchildren Jake and Jeb Field, Nick and Casey Taber, Sydney and Ethan Wacht, Taylor and Harrison Field; sisters in law, Karen Boucher of Eastham, MA and Carol Pelton of Harwich, MA, and many nieces and nephews. Tom was deeply loved and will be missed by all of his family.
