Gerald F. Dowd, 76, of North Eastham, MA, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, in his home on March 29, 2013.

Jerry was born on August 21, 1936 in Worcester, MA to Jeremiah Gerald Dowd and Catherine (Cassidy) Dowd. He was the husband of Barbara (Shaub) Dowd. They were married for more than 50 years. Jerry and Barbara met while attending Saint Anselm College in Manchester, NH. He graduated from the College in 1958 with a B.A. in History.

Jerry served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman from 1959 to 1962, in Korea. After selling life insurance, he worked as a sales executive in advertising and print media for 30 years. Jerry retired to the Cape in 1995.

Although he excelled in all athletics, in later years, he most enjoyed a gentleman's game of golf, and was a member of Chequessett Yacht & Golf Club in Wellfleet, MA. Always a gentleman, Jerry was known for his charming smile and gracious manner. He was a beloved husband, an incredible father, and a dear friend.

Jerry is survived by his wife Barbara and his five children: Mary Givens and her former husband Scott Givens of East Windsor, CT; Moira Noonan and her husband Stephen of Sandwich, MA; David Dowd and his wife Elizabeth Tsehai of Washington, DC; Margaret O’Regan and her husband Robert of Sandwich, MA; and Maureen Dowd and her husband Sean Warecke of Wellfleet, MA.

Jerry treasured his nine grandchildren: Siobhan Givens, Scotty (Buddy) Givens, Tristan Givens, Joshua Noonan, Kasey Noonan, Matthew Noonan, Gabriel Dowd, Rafael Dowd, and Joseph O’Regan. He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Dowd of Shrewsbury, MA.

It was a sad day when I read of the passing of Mr. Dowd. He & Mrs. Dowd always waved when they drove down their road and past my house. I will miss those waves & quick conversations we had in front of the mailbox. It was nice knowing that there was a neighbor who kept watch over me! Mr. D. --when I wave to Mrs. Dowd and the rest of the family now, I will be waving to you too.

We will miss Jerry at CYCC. I never played golf with Jerry, but would meet him on the course during his play with his friends. We had brief conversations and I admired him as a true gentleman.
God rest his soul. Blessings for his family.
