Harvey "Butch" Smith Jr.

Harvey “Butch” Smith, Jr., 70, passed away on January 1, 2015, with his daughters by his side. Butch was born and raised in New Jersey, to the late Harvey and Mary Smith, where he worked the majority of his life as an automobile mechanic and spent his off-time on the water enjoying his love of fishing. He relocated to Harwich, MA, in 1992, where he could continue his love of all things fishing. He spent the last leg of his career as head custodian at Wellfleet Elementary School where they recognized his retirement in 2007 with a field dedication located across the school on Lawrence Road in Wellfleet.

Butch is survived by his daughters, Melissa Quast of Brewster, MA, and, Crystal Kidd of Milford, PA, along with five doting grandchildren, Andrew Jr, Cooper, Madeline, Casey and Chloe. Butch was a loving and kind man who was thought fondly by all who knew him. He would give you the shirt off his back or the last dollar in his pocket and do it with a smile. He will be dearly missed.

Memorial Visitation will be held Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015 at Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, MA, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., followed by a celebration of his life at 151 Run Hill Road, Brewster, MA.
