Hedwig O'Hara

Orleans, Hedwig (Hedy) O'Hara was born in 1936 in Cham Germany. She came to the USA in 1958 and met Richard O'Hara in Hingham MA. They were married in 1959 and later moved to Orleans. They have a daughter Margaret (Dodson) and her husband Donald now living in Indiana. Hedy was an artist who painted Tole Art, an older form of painting on wood or metal rather than canvas. She was also a highly talented florist working over 30 years for Fancy Flowers of Orleans. Hedy braided rugs for all of her grandchildren Ben, Nate Sam and Hannah Rose Dodson. In over 50 years of marriage Hedy and Richard made a home for over a dozen young people including foreign students, summer police officers and others. Among those who remain very close to the family is Leslie Quiroga a student from Bolivia and Peter Vogt now a Captain Paramedic on the Orleans Fire Department.

Visitation hours are 2 to 5 PM Sunday December 19th at the Nickerson Funeral Home Eldridge Park Way Orleans. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 4 PM Monday December 20th at The Church of the Holy Spirit 204 Monument Road, Orleans. Burial will follow on Tuesday at 9 AM in the Orleans Cemetery for family and close friends. Donations may be made to the C.H.S. Youth Group 204 Monument Road Orleans MA 02653
