Helen was born October 23, 1938 in Newark, New Jersey, to the late Van Wyck and Doris (nee Knecht) Williamson. She is survived by her beloved husband James Nicholas Bruinooge, daughter Lois Jean Bruinooge and her fiancée Dan Mullins of Woodstock, CT, her children Hanna Bruinooge Holcomb and Ethan Bruinooge Holcomb, son Alan James Bruinooge and his wife Kathleen Alice (nee Maitland) Bruinooge of Hawthorne, NJ, their children Kyle Alan Bruinooge and his wife Erica Christine (nee Young), Peter Nicholas Bruinooge and Ian Laurie Bruinooge. Helen is also survived by her brother, Richard Williamson and his wife Sandie of Sebastian, FL, by her sisters-in-law Berta Bruinooge of Wellfleet and Carol Bruinooge of NJ, and by her nephews Eric and Evan and their families.
Helen worked for Rutherford National Bank in NJ, where she met her husband. After moving to the Cape 32 years ago, she worked at Mid-Cape Home Center, and worked with her husband on their clam grant in Wellfleet.
Helen loved spending time with her family, especially on the beaches of the Cape. She was a wonderful quilter, cook, baker and “puzzle genius.” She treasured her quilting friends and her “Aqualinas.”
Above all, she loved spending time with her best friend and husband, Jim. They recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. You could often find them walking along beaches, bike paths and the pier in Wellfleet. If they weren’t in town, they were likely watching their grandchildren perform or compete – they rarely missed a concert, recital or sporting event. At least once a year, they loved to explore the world aboard a cruise ship.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Helen’s name to the United Methodist Church of Eastham, 3200 State Highway Route 6, Eastham, MA 02642, where she was a faithful member and volunteer for many years.
